Watching over them

Here, the earth remembers the sea. Under Anne Tournelle's hands, red and black clay, veiled in white slip, replays the planet's great stories: the fracture of continents, the retreating foam, the craters that fire opens in matter. Each piece is a landscape torn from a single instant — a coastline, a lagoon, a sandbar, a mountain lake — frozen at the exact moment the earth cracked and the sea seemed still to flow through it. Terre & Mer-veille does not depict nature: it carries its fragility. These ceramic reliefs, unique and unpredictable, born of a controlled accident, pay tribute to a living world we no longer look at closely enough — one we must learn, once again, to watch over.
